Amen.

Being a father is difficult but very gratifying. And you get to see the results with your children, and if it’s hard to watch you just keep watching but you never quit being Dad.

Careful. Writing this beautifully and emotionally could erode your hard ass bona fides. Thank you for this post.

Thank you so much - your insights on fatherhood are so wonderful. I did a little editing and sent this to my little guys (now 33 and 31, and the older one now a father himself) to help them understand how I feel

Well said, my father is soon to be 91 and reaching the end. Some difficult decisions to be made soon as his mental aptitude isn't what it was. Its tough to watch but its a part of life. Enjoy the time with your sons. At some point they will be off with their own families and it will never been the same.

Wonderful inspiring words! Thank you for sharing! I agree with all of it. Having a very successful 30 year old son, a fun seeking 21 year old, and a 5 year old feral free range, this is all encompassing life as a father longer than I was ever not. Staggering events that have been a blessing every day I have been with them as my gifts. I love to talk to them about how much I am grateful for them to be my sons and how much better of a human and a man I am because of the opportunity to be their father.

This is a great post. Shane Fross taught me while my kids were still really young to truly appreciate the moments with my kids because they disappear fast. Before I know it, I’ll be ‘watching them rise’ as you said. The closer they get to that time, the more I appreciate the questions, the practices, and the opportunities to provide a life lesson or a life experience.
