Years ago (11 to be exact), there was an issue at work. The land team had entirely overlooked/ignored/or otherwise forgot to care about a significant amount of acreage…. On a reservation…. That was discovered to have an expiry date much sooner than previously identified. The risk and cost was high and their F@&ks to give closely resembled China’s view of CO2 and reacted similarly. After gently prodding and encouraging a solution all week, I was met with blank stares and “oh well…”
I elevated the urgency in a tersely (but obviously well written) email titled “Happy Friday.” The subtitle of today’s post reminded me of that day. It’s been a long, long time. You’ll be happy to know “we” resolved the problem (well - one person did), saved the land and lived happily ever after… No. That ending is for fairy tales. The land manager resigned in anger (I’ve never even heard of a resignation letter that includes the phrase “I won’t work with David Ramsden-Wood and therefore resign…” before), one person got fired and then, on a glorious February 1st about 6 months later, so did I, followed 6 weeks later by the rest of the US management. If you’ve read the book, you know what comes next. If you haven’t, I’ll simply say that all experiences have a silver lining and OneEnergy doesn’t happen without that email. I digress and return to our regularly scheduled program.
Today, Elon takes over as CEO of Twitter and with it comes many questions. Who will he fire (many, thus far, the CEO, the CFO and the chief censor, who went on Rogan with the most unbelievable argument for censorship ever, as depicted by the meme above )? Will the left go crazy having lost their grip on the narrative (yes)? But most importantly, what will he do with Donald J. Trump.
The most polarizing figure in American politics remains THE talking point of Democrats even though the rest of us never see him, hear from him, or particularly care what he has to say. Bring up inflation? “Trump is horrible!” Bring up the weather in January? “January 6th was the worst day in American history!!” Like the abortion issue that seems to be the only “high ground” for democrats around the country this election, Trump is their rallying cry at every turn. Which brings me to Twitter.
If Elon Musk reinstates him Monday, he will absolutely impact the midterms in favor of the Democrats. Nothing dog whistles the left like a good Donald tweet. The media will go nuts over Elon and his support of insurrection, his South African apartheid roots, and will remind us he has umpteen children with women all over the world and looking for the next volunteer (for the record, now that I identify as a woman, and no doubt can get pregnant, I’d like that role, if only to get a job at Twitter and watch Tesla implode from the front row… I’m an opportunist!) That Trump, Donald and Kanye own the platforms not called Facebook and Instagram… well look out. Elon tweeted this this week. God, I love him.
Conversely, and smartly, Elon could wait until after the midterms to reinstate Trump. This would be a pro Republican move. I’ll admit that to date I’ve been surprised by the relative quiet from “The Donald” as a lot lies in the balance November 8th for him. If Republicans sweep, as they should for about 8.3% and “CDC” reasons…. It totally undermines “the big steal.” Why would Democrats steal one election and not another. Trump will be finished, DeSantis (with Tulsi, mark my words) will become the Candidate for President, Pelosi will step away from politics to insider trade her family office until she joins RBG and Newsom will become the Democratic candidate setting up a Florida Vs. California battle Royale for the soul of the country.
On the other hand, if the Republicans lose, many moderates and rational people will actually question the level of rigging in elections in this country. The division will increase, the hatred will expand, and Trump will become the candidate for the Republican Party. I don’t care whether you like Trump or not, but if you love this country, this version of the future is bad.
My hope (not a plan) is that Elon knows this, won’t reinstate Trump until mid November alongside all the doctors and “conspiracy theorists” who turned out to be more right than wrong, and he will save America. Gosh I hope I’m right.
Quickly, I’ll add that Amazon reported earnings after the bell yesterday. They were, as you would expect, horrible, proving once again that Amazon massively benefited from the lockdowns and COVID mania that it itself helped to encourage and promote alongside the other henchmen Meta, Microsoft and Google, all of whom literally control the discussion and narrative. Conversely, Exxon and Chevron reported stellar quarters because they make actual things that the world actually needs. I remain steadfastly committed to the belief commodity prices go much higher in the coming months and the energy policies of the west will continue to be shown for what they are. Absolutely ignorant of physics. Finally, the IEA released their World Energy Outlook and reiterated their stance that “no… renewables are not to blame for todays energy crisis.” Ok. Sure, and China cares about CO2…. I hope Fatih Birol finds a warm spot in hell when the time comes.
Happy Friday! I’m off to watch my youngest play hockey in Omaha… hut hut!!
NM is the best rock in the country. They are maximizing returns.
Love how you tie all this together David. Hoping you have a less "interesting" drive to Omaha than your polar express escapades in an EV
