This was a tough week for the United States. In Europe, President Biden supported an agreement of understanding that defies the actual laws of production and economics while promising to help Europe ween off Russian gas supplies. I won’t belabor it here because it’s so incredibly unrealistic in the context of why Europe (and to a lesser extent, the US) has an energy crisis, but I’ll provide a link and a clue from Senator Warren.
I am writing regarding my concern about rising natural gas prices for American consumers, the impact this will have for families struggling to pay their bills and keep their homes warm this winter, and the extent to which these price increases are being driven by energy companies’ corporate greed and profiteering as they ‘moved record amounts of U.S. gas out of the country.
EQT has a wonderful plan for the long term to address this. It’s called “produce more gas, build more infrastructure and encourage global trade.” Senator Warren should invite Toby Rice to explain it to everyone in Washington instead of vilifying him and his peers. Alas, that isn’t going to happen until after the midterms.
Speaking of Senators, by now everyone has heard about the exchange during the Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
Sen Blackburn (R-TN): “Can you provide a definition for the word ‘woman’?”
Justice Jackson: “I’m not a biologist.”
Hmmm. How very unsatisfying. I distinctly remember President Biden saying that “the next Supreme Court Justice will be a black woman.” What exactly is a woman?
Oh. But are there any distinguishing features of this that could be helpful to me?
Wrong again. Which brings me to the best joke I’ve heard in a long time: “If you don’t think Lia Thomas is an NCAA women’s champion, you can suck her d*ck.”
Elon Musk continues to be a beacon of logic in these strange, strange times. As the world’s richest American, he can afford to be.
Earlier this month, he acknowledged we need to produce more oil and gas globally.
And yesterday, after the banning of the Babylon Bee (who lost their Twitter appeal), Elon took to Twitter for a poll.
The results are in and based on last time he ran a poll about selling his stock (which he did), Elon is being very intentional about this. That the SEC agreement he made for his “Going private at $420” tweet was to see his board approve all his tweets (which they don’t) and that the SEC is coming back after him … well, that is of course the real reason… However, I’d expect he will cancel his Twitter account this week and he’s using the opportunity to make the point about censorship. Good for him. Someone has to. And as we’ve learned from Washington, don’t let the truth get in the way of a good narrative.
And finally, let’s close with a serious topic. I highly suggest you read this piece from Doomberg. We have a major, major food crisis coming and it will take all the men, women and … well, everybody who identifies as human or has animals… to start to talk about this to come up with solutions that work. I’m going to suggest consumption… but that’s just me.
Have a great weekend.
DRW, please stop.......you will not be able to top this all encompassing smack-down. Take my advice and quit while you're ahead.........Bravo!
