Each January, I embark on a no-booze-uary. Sometimes they last all month, and sometimes I epically fail on the 6th. But it’s a great way to bring in a new year, and a reminder that sometimes the best laid plans fall apart when they get punched in the face (or you get invited to a really fun happy hour). I like the tradition and so far, I’ve had a successful 9 hours.
As I look ahead to 2022, there are a lot of issues that will shape the year. This upcoming week, we will explore each one in depth. Here’s a preview:
1. Elections (voting rights, mail in ballots, IDs and a referendum on incumbents policy response to COVID).
2. Roe v. Wade (In practice, this is a question of abortion rights but the law as determined in 1973 is what’s at issue and it will be a hot button).
3. Cost/quality of living (inflation is here, there is only one way to temper it, and it will impact the stock market, home prices and the economy).
4. Climate change (it’s now becoming clear that “net zero” is not net zero cost. Studies indicated it will cost each American $11,300 per year, every year, for the next 29 years to get to Biden’s net zero. Add in unreliability in access and you have real questions).
5. Federal overreach (Executive orders, unelected leaders at the CDC, OSHA and the FDA and real questions about the role of government, and how local is local?)
I’m the meantime, I’m going to eat less, exercise more and play my new guitar… a lot! And judging by 2020 and 2021, I predict there will be a lot of country songs.

Left handed Gibson? Nice. 2021 wasn't all bad.
