We use words to add emphasis, like “emergency.” We use stats to add credibility, because until manipulated, actual results speak volumes. Today however, it seems definitions are creeping. Genders, alleged phobias, racism, abuse, and emergencies are all very different than I learned them. As are clinical trials, climate models, and death coding. If the same data can be interpreted with six different outcomes, half supporting opposite policy, is that reliable? If we can change a definition to include an entirely new population or meaning, is that term still accurate?
As someone that has studied data, actual outcomes, and navigated futures and careers on my ability to synthesize that data accurately…my answer is unequivocally NO. Here’s why:
A majority of Americans continue to support a mask requirement for people traveling on airplanes and other shared transportation, a new poll finds. A ruling by a federal judge has put the government’s transportation mask mandate on hold.
The poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that despite opposition to that requirement that included verbal abuse and physical violence against flight attendants, 56 percent of Americans favor requiring people on planes, trains and public transportation to wear masks, compared with 24 percent opposed and 20 percent who say they’re neither in favor nor opposed.
Last week, I flew to and from Midland. My rough “poll” of actual fliers showed that 90% of the people on the plane didn’t wear masks. Sure, that was headed to Texas. What about in the airport where there are lots more people? About 90% were unmasked in Denver. And airline employees? 1 of the 10 United staff I saw throughout the airport and on the planes wore a mask. Of the people that wore a mask, half of the 10% were wearing N95, the rest were wearing surgical. I saw no pictures or sayings or bedazzlement on the masks that remained. Statistics vs. data.
Virtue signaling “the right answer” in a poll OR asking people who weren’t flying before OR sampling from a group of people you know will get the “right answer” is not science, it’s narrative. Remember when….
In the clip, Dr Fauci says “There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.”
Fauci made this comment on an interview with 60 Minutes on March 8, during the early stages of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the United States. A longer extract of the interview is visible youtu.be/PRa6t_e7dgI
Here’s the data. You make your own opinion. But doesn’t look like 56% to me. That would imply more than 1,100,000 would have canceled their reservations.
So, while the the data in the poll may be technically “correct” and representative of those they polled, the results are clearly not fairly or properly tailored to the actual outcome of “90%” who actually leave their house to get on a plane.
Moreover, if 10% of the fliers were driving the behaviors of 90% of the people, maybe we need more logic and reason, and less opinion polls and manipulated statistics that drive a narrative, to analyze the actual data and stop calling those we see on social media and on TV talking about “the climate emergency”, “the COVID emergency” and the “freedom of speech needs more censorship not less” the majority. They are not. And it’s time to speak up about it.
I don't get many opportunities to enlighten people outside oil and gas on the realities of energy, but I got my chance 2 days ago. A very nice lady came to my house to pick up some flagstone I had posted online. She was a dog lover, and my dog is charming, so she hung around a while. After discovering my occupation, she asked, "so why are YOU GUYS keeping gas prices so high?"
Glad you asked.....
She was very intelligent, but had NO idea. I now understand why the slow death of our energy system is taking place.
I especially loved the “don’t you dare F with my kids” part..you GO man. Keep the intel coming..sooner or later these other (insert word here) will wake up!😘
